SC Johnson Purchases Wind Power in Mexico

Energy Manager Today Staff

SC Johnson Mexico is participating in the Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) wind farm program via a power purchase agreement, which will enable the company to increase its use of renewable energy at its Toluca, Mexico facility to an estimated 86 percent, up by 65 percent.

The turbines are in Oaxaca and were constructed by ENEL, in partnership with CFE, which provides the infrastructure for energy transport.

SC Johnson will begin using the purchased wind power mid-2013. Participation in the program, and the purchase agreement, advance the company?s commitment to increase its use of renewable energy to 44 percent of total electricity use worldwide by 2016.

In December 2012, SC Johnson activated two new wind turbines at its Waxdale manufacturing facility in Mt. Pleasant, Wis. The wind turbines will produce about 8 million kWh of electricity annually.
