How Many Times Did You Say No before saying yes? - Adoption ...

The first call was for a 17 week old baby boy- They said he was caucasion/hispanic. he was black hispanic. My husband and I are white as white can be, and Ive had a friend who has adopted outside of her race and had nothing but problems with the kids once they hit puberty. We strongly feel that they need to feel as if they fit. So sadly, we said no.

The second set was our perfect fit and we said yes. But sadly the grandparents sued the county and won custody in court.

The next set was two girls under 4. Declined, Ive already raised two girls, husband wants one of each.

The next set was for a sibling set of 4 under age 5. We dont have enough rooms or enough seats in the car.

The next set again was for 4, and again we said no.

The next was for a sibling set of two boys, under 4. We said we were interested. The social worker called back and said she was expecting and due any day- no idea as to the sex of the child or prenatal care etc. Finally she called a week or so later, saying it was another boy- we declined. Husband was really hoping for a girl.

Next a single boy age 4 -we want siblings. We only want to do this once.

Finally, the last call (and hopefully we are done!) Two ages 8 (girl) and 2.5 (boy)...We said yes right away and went to full disclosure.

The kids started transitional visits right away, and moved in with us a month later We are all doing well!

So I think thats a whopping EIGHT. This does not include the ones I inquired about online, and they were more than we could handle. I think there were about 5 of those.
